Wild Idol Sparkling Rosé amongst winners at World alcohol free awards 2023
Wild Idol has continued its award-winning streak after being named among the winners at the first-ever World Alcohol-Free Awards 2023 – the only international drinks competition dedicated to drinks of 0.5% ABV or below. Wild Idol Sparkling Rosé won a Silver Medal in the low and no-alcohol wine category, adding further recognition for its zero-compromise approach to provenance, production and flavour.
The Awards received over 400 entries from 20 countries and were judged by an esteemed panel of 28 eminent non-alcoholic specialist tasters from Europe, the US and the UK. Established in 2022 by former Michelin-starred drinks buyer and non-alcoholic specialist, Chrissie Parkinson, and respected drinks writer Chris Losh, the competition is already set to become a benchmark for alcohol-free drinks all over the world.
The Judges’ highlighted Wild Idol Rosé’s pale pink hue, fine mousse, and flavours of pears, strawberries and raspberries, and described it as “a celebratory fizz with a long finish”.
The launch of the World Alcohol Free Awards places a new and brighter spotlight on the ever-evolving world of zero-alcohol drinks. Over 14% of the British population are now tee-total (source: Drinkaware) and no and low alcohol consumption is set to increase by a third by 2026, with no-alcohol products spearheading this growth (source: IWSR Drinks Market Analysis, December 2022).
In addition to the success of no-alcohol beers and spirits, the non-alcoholic wine category has gained huge traction thanks to the introduction of higher-quality alternatives to fine wine and champagne, led by Wild Idol.
Retailers are also catering more for the sober-curious, with dedicated stores such as Club Soda which opened its first non-alcohol bottle shop in Covent Garden. Wild Idol’s range of alcohol-free sparkling wines can be found in a number of premium retailers including Harrods, Daylesford and Selfridges.
In announcing the results of the World Alcohol Free Awards, Chrissie Parkinson stated: “We want the World Alcohol-Free Awards to become a recognised point of reference for Alcohol Free beverages worldwide – celebrating excellence, originality and progress within this space wherever we see it.”
